The CUBIC Modular System provides infinite opportunities to meet individual customer needs and demands when designing low-voltage switchboards.
Not only does the modularity and versatility behind the enclosure system enable the construction of any kind of electrical switchboard. It also offers diverse configuration options that increase competitiveness for both panel builder and end-user by aligning investment with the respective personal and operational safety requirements.

The many configuration options available in the CUBIC Modular System, including Cu-mini, BSM Box System, MPI, Plug-in, Plug-in+, Multi Drawer and the individual panel system CPS25, have many great advantages.
The largest hereof may be that the panel builder is always able to choose a configuration that perfectly meets the end-user’s requirements without having to oversize the solution and only utilizing a single enclosure system.
But to some extent, the wide range of possibilities also increase the complexity of choosing the most optimal solution according to individual end-user requirements.
Simplified Model for Configuration Selection
To ease the selection of the best-fitting configuration options, we have created a model that positions the available configurations in relation to investment and personal and operational safety levels. The model is simplified and gives an overview of the different configuration possibilities.
Bear in mind, that several solutions may be applied in the same switchboard solution and adjustments are possible to adapt each configuration even further according to specific end-user requirements. All once again underlining the great versatility of the Modular System.
The model positions the configuration options of the Modular System in relation to investment and personal and operational safety.
Investment level
The investment level encompasses factors such as price and the scope of the project including the required ampere level. As end-user requirements become more advanced so do the corresponding configuration options which increases the investment level. The same goes for the project size and ampere level.
The solutions offered in the Modular System range up to 6300A which cater to a wide range of requirements. Additionally, CPS25 and BSM Box System are suitable for distribution boards up to 800A while Cu-mini, our solution for wall-mounted small distribution boards, ranges up to 250A.
Personal and Operational Safety
In the model, personal and operational safety refers to the possibility to carry out work on the switchboard while still in operation without causing hazards to the employee or causing downtime during maintenance or modification.
At CUBIC, personal safety is consistently prioritized in all configuration options. However, some options enhance overall safety measures even further as the functionalities add an additional level of operational safety.
This applies to e.g., the Multi Drawer as the fully withdrawable function makes it safe and easy to maintain or modify the switchboard without having to disconnect the main supply.
Configuration options in the
Modular System
Multi Drawer
Fully withdrawable insert system where electrical components are mounted in exchangeable drawer units to provide the highest possible personal and operational safety. Can be operated without disconnecting the main supply of the panel. Read more…
Plug-in/Plug-in+
Demountable insert system offering nearly the functions of a draw-out system while benefiting from the economy of a fixed insert system. The plug-in drawers have connections on the incoming side that can be disconnected from the distribution busbar without the use of tools, even if the busbar is live. This ensures operational and personnel safety to almost the same high degree as a draw-out system. Read more…
MPI
Well-documented fixed insert system up to from 4b with extreme functionality and high personal safety. The system has been constructed to obtain a very rational workshop fitting, and the final product is thus an exceptionally competitive solution. Read more…
BSM Box System
Highest quality switchboard system in the market for main- and distribution boards up to 800A ensuring competitive, future-proof switchboards in an elegant and timeless design. Read more…
CPS25
Individual panel system providing panel builders very cost-competitive solutions when it comes to main- and distribution panels up to 800A. The competitive price combined with easy configuration and quick mounting makes a perfect platform to create competitive advantages for success in the market. Read more…
Cu-mini
Series of wall-mounted small distribution boards in 15 different sizes up to 250A made in the well-known CUBIC quality with light grey lacquered steel plates and a wide range of accessories comprising various types of locking devices, mounting plates, and more. Read more…
Matching investment and personal and operational safety levels with end-user requirements
As a rule of thumb, the right configuration options should be chosen by considering which options best fits the end-user’s requirements in terms of investment and personal and operational safety.
For example, most end-users in the oil and gas industry require a high level of operational safety with the possibility to maintain and modify switchboards without experiencing downtime as even short interruptions in production lead to enormous economic losses. In this case, the withdrawable Multi Drawer system most likely is the preferred option as the electrical components are mounted in exchangeable drawer units that can be quickly replaced or operated without disconnecting the main supply of the panel.
In other cases, the need for operational safety may not be as significant. E.g., in offices, shopping malls, or schools where maintenance and modifications can be planned outside work time to not influence productivity. In this case, other requirements will determine which configuration fits the best, e.g., cost, delivery, and installation time. Here both the CPS25 and BSM Box System could be a great choice for solutions under 800A while choosing the Modular System with fixed inserts should be preferred when higher ampere levels are required.

Combining multiple configuration options
In the CUBIC Modular System several configuration options can be used in the same switchboard – even in the same column.
As long as you are able to verify that the power loss generated by the ACB does not increase the temperature enough to exceed the maximum operational temperature for the components above, then there is no issue in combining multiple solutions in the same column.

Remember, several configuration options are often used in the same switchboard for large projects as combining configurations to meet the exact need ensures both competitiveness and a technically safe and efficient solution for the end-user.
At last, the best-fitting configuration options should always be selected based on the individual end-user’s requirements related to investment and personal and operational safety.
